Ballarat Scanner Frequencies

1410th Dec 2012Ramble

Having dabbled in a little bit of radio stuff I thought I’d post a few details of useful Ballarat based scanner frequencies that you may want to listen to should you be in the area! There are a handful of others available that I won’t divulge information about because it’s best kept that way, this means I won’t provide info on how to listen to security or other sensitive radio frequencies – Please stop asking and they’re boring anyway!

Ballarat Police Scanner Frequency – (Repeater, covering most of the Ballarat area) – 163.8250 MhzUpdate 20/11/2018 – You cannot listen any more. The only chat you’ll hear is VKC (ESTA) telling units their digital channel allocations. Finally, police have switched over to encrypted digital radio comms. Please DO NOT message me to ask how to listen as this is highly illegal and those in the know would never tell you!

Ballarat Ambulance Frequency – (covers almost all RAV’s stations) 413.350 Mhz

Ballarat CFA Frequency – (They use a number of them, main one then go to channels) – Main: 163.4375Mhz  (VicFire) Goto’s: 161.1625Mhz & 161.200Mhz
Edit: No longer just analogue – digital talkgroups etc on APCO25 – don’t bother if you don’t have digital scanners… they also provide free streams now days via internet.

Ballarat Airport Frequency – (Main Traffic Channel) – 127.7500 Mhz – Mostly available in Wendouree areas, not so clear in CBD

Ballarat SES Frequency – (Not Much Action) – 459.1250 Mhz

Plover Security – (Ballarat CBD, a good old listen on your average Friday / Saturday night) – 469.9250 Mhz
Edit (Jan 2016): Plover staff have asked me not to publish their frequency – It has changed but you may still get something on this frequency 🙂

Base  Hospital Ballarat – 162.9750Mhz & 163.4250Mhz

Davis Buslines (CDC Buses) Ballarat – 493.4250Mhz

Ballarat Taxis – Tx 486.025Mhz Rx 480.825Mhz – Duplex – In recent times it appears the Tx/Rx have been switched around… give it a crack see how you go, typically only used Mon-Fri 8am-4pm because their call center is no longer based in Ballarat and comms are via mobile.

UPDATE (15/02/2013) – This page is getting a huge amount of Google traffic from people looking for scanner frequencies etc
Please let me know by commenting below if you want something not on my list, there really is not much else locally worth listening to.

UPDATE (20/11/2018) – Victoria Police have switched from the old SMR to Digital channels. This means they are encrypted and you CANNOT listen to police in Ballarat anymore! Any person or website claiming to enable access is a scam! Whilst there have been well recorded incidents where persons have been able to listen to police using illegal means once encrypted it is not something that I would suggest is worth pursuing because it will more than likely involve imprisonment.

Hi Brad. I’ve entered all the above frequencies in Ballarat, but I was wondering if you could include Daylesford , surrounding areas and a little bit of the rural sites.

      Hi Stuart,
Daylesford Police station I believe has it’s own transmission site and is on frequency of 163.5750 Mhz however this may not be current and I suggest giving it a go before saving the frequency.
Assuming you’re after frequencies within the VKC Ballarat control you’ll be interested in three main frequencies from different transmission points: Mt William 163.6125 Mhz, Mt Hollowbank 163.6750 Mhz and the Daylesford Police Station frequency provided above.
CFA in the Ballarat area have three main channels:
      Ch 67 161.0250 Mhz
      Ch 68 161.1625 Mhz
      Ch 69 161.2000 Mhz

Stephen, you should easily pickup Bacchus Marsh police in Melton. I think from Memory 163.8250 will work there but if that fails shoot me an email and I’ll do some digging.

Hey brad, do u know any other security codes apart from plover?

    • Brad (February 12, 2015, 2:36 pm). Reply

Gary… I do… But I rather not publish them. Sectrol have their own setup as well as DW and a heap of out of town mobs frequently have crews up here with Motorola handhelds usually around the 495.00mhz area. Get scanning and you’ll pick stuff up.

how come you cant give us sectrol codes i want to lisen to them?

    • Brad (May 24, 2015, 7:58 pm). Reply

Shane I won’t share Sectrols frequencies and so on because they operate alarm response and if crooks got hold of the info they’d be able to use it for the wrong reasons.

Hi do you have the new Ballarat cfa code??

    • Brad (September 22, 2015, 1:58 pm). Reply

Adam, The new codes require more than an analogue scanner. I certainly can help out with Uniden files for the CFA channels region by region if needed. Just shoot me a message on the contact page.

Hi brad, there are a lot of police scanner apps in the App Store. Wondering which options we go into to find Ballarat? There are general ones like Grampians etc but It would be helpful to listen to exactly what is happening in Ballarat

    • Brad (September 22, 2015, 1:59 pm). Reply

Tyler, The comms you hear on the Grampians channel will cover Ballarat – they are all patched and there is no real way to hear only Ballarat traffic – given you’ll get VKC for all areas. You can listen to just local Ballarat units talking but you’ll only get one side of the conversation. If you listen long enough you’ll learn to zone out unless it’s something of interest. IE Ballarat units or a serious incident.

I brad I added outdoor aerial to my uniden trunktracker iv an works brilliantly I get Melton halls gap Bacchus Marsh An was wondering when we go digital in Ballarat or have we already

    • Brad (July 4, 2018, 7:18 pm). Reply

      Hi Kim,
Not digital in Ballarat for police frequencies as yet. They keep changing the dates for various reasons. Ballarat Police have all the kit to go digital encrypted but there are other stations in the division who aren’t upgraded. It’ll be end of 2018 as at the last I heard about it. It was meant to be end 2017 then March 2018 – keeps changing. You’ll know when it switches over… you won’t hear them after that!
      Brad
